In 2013, I graduated as a Master in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Ghent. I got involved in the CompOmics group during my master thesis, during which I worked on the haemagglutinin-neuraminidase and fusion protein of the mumps virus. Specifically, I built the 3D models of these proteins using homology modelling and hence I got interested in the wonderful world of structural biology. Furthermore, new outbreaks of mumps occurred during my master thesis and I could also focus on the research of the cause of this recurrence.

Therefore, there was an opportunity of doing a PhD in this group. The focus of my PhD will also be the mumps virus. I want to closely look at the reason why this virus is affecting vaccinated young adults, thereby using and optimizing the 3D models I previously built.
