I finished my M.Sc. degree in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Coimbra (Portugal) in July 2013. I specialized in Imaging and Radiation and did my Master’s thesis on modelling the propagation of light in the human retina through the solution to Maxwell’s equations for the propagation of electromagnetic waves.
Shortly after I started working at IBILI, a research institution that is part of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Coimbra. There, I was part of a team that worked with automatic classification systems and medical images of the human retina.
A year spent working on these systems helped me deciding to pursue a career in scientific research in a similar area; in order to achieve this, I applied for a position as a Ph.D. student in the CompOmics group. Here, I am going to work on the application of machine learning methods on proteomic data.
